Saying “I don’t care”

“I don’t care.”

It’s probably the most impolite thing a person can say.

Most of time you hear it without malice or true intent. It’s more of a “I’m tired and want to go to sleep” like expression. It’s a quick and flippant response to something that’s unimportant at the current time. Or maybe it’s a response to something doesn’t that doesn’t garner your attention.

But when you actually mean it, it’s flat out… well… mean.

And sometimes, to get your message across – you have to get mean.

My cameo on “Kenny Hotz’s Triumph of the Will”

Check out the footage at 7:34 and you’ll see my shining moment.

Yeah, that’s right… I hugged a Muslim. And it was fun.

I was getting off the subway at Bloor Station on my way to an appointment when I noticed the filming. When I came back to the station after the appointment, they were still there filming. Me being the curious media dude, I asked the producer what they were filming and he immediately asked if I wanted to be interviewed. I had nothing to lose and said yes. “Kenny” (in disguise) began asking me questions regarding if it was alright if there should be a mosque built by Jews in the city. I honestly told him I had no problem with it and it would probably be a great sign of respect for two faiths to be peacefully be working towards something beneficial such as giving a group of people a place to pray; it would perhaps put Jews in a better light in the eyes of some Muslims. Kenny then spoke some Hebrew with me and that was it…. until the Muslim showed up. I stuck around to chat with the producer and all of a sudden Kenny motioned to me to come back for more. Next thing I know, Kenny is interviewing the Muslim and I simultaneously. Eventually the questions led to whether peace was possible between us, and then we hugged it out.

It wasn’t until after while signing the release did I realize that it was Kenny behind the whole thing. I went up to him in between shots and told him I had no idea it was him and that he was doing a great job. He smiled and said thanks to me and then muttered to himself, “that’s what I’m talking about,” with a big smile on his face.

The footage was shot around winter time last year (late 2010-early 2011) and wasn’t aired until July 29, 2011. The only reason I’m bringing this up now is because I never saw the footage until today, when a friend sent me the link on Facebook. Much thanks for find, bro 🙂

10 Posts From 2010 Worth Remembering

When I look back on 2010, dear G-d I hope I can find some kind of solace and strength from a year I honestly want to forget and move on from… But if I can’t, I can always look back on some of these ditties that came about via this blog. Here are some of my top/favourite posts from this past calendar year: Continue reading “10 Posts From 2010 Worth Remembering”

It’s My Birthday, And I’m Happy

When the clock strikes midnight, the date will be December 16. And I will one year older…

It was 23 years ago on this date that yours truly came into being.

And no matter how things may seem in the long run, or even the short run – there is NOTHING that can stop me from being happy about this occasion.

Not even that exam I have to take at 9 am until noon. (Albeit even though I’ll be 23 at midnight… when the clock strikes noon, I’ll be Free and 23 😉

My birthday tends to be a more than one day celebration and hopefully this year is no different…

And as for the year altogether, I guarantee it’ll be much better than 22. Personally I don’t wanna remember 22….

So another new beginning starts for me, and let’s hope with G-d’s help, great things will happen and are bound to come for year #23

The Definition of Huh?: Shabbos Goy Available

I usually don’t make posts like this, but this one was too good to hold on… Plus it’s been a while since I’ve posted.

I don’t know where it’s from or where the picture was taken (besides the obvious New York Lottery sign), but it’s just too absurd – and therefore funny.

And even though I’ve got a few good ideas in the making, I just don’t have the time to get ’em in there. Better to start small and work up the ladder slowly, instead of taking massive steps before realizing my arms and legs are too small & weak to climb up the next rung.

Nonetheless… posts are coming.

Loser List #11- Clumsy Reporters

Now I usually reserve this nomination for someone (or something) current and politically relevant, particularly relating to Israel-bashers or anti-Semites, followed by a rant of some sort. But when I saw this video, I couldn’t help but shake my head, and therefore deemed worthy of Loser List distinction. And I’ve even found a way add a small rant on it as well (in addition to simply saying “FAIL”).

The Definition of Awesome: Gold medal game delays flight

It’s a short article and that’s because the point is made quite quickly. And in the words of my cousin, who works for Fox News in Washington D.C., can you blame them?

Here’s the story from the Ottawa Citizen:

Flying fans refuse to walk out on game

Air Canada was forced to delay a flight from Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics because passengers watching the end of men’s hockey final on airport televisions ignored repeated calls to board. “We incurred a flight delay for a reason Air Canada had not yet encountered in over 72 years of existence,” Air Canada chief executive Calin Rovinescu said.

If I were on that flight, I’d be right beside those passengers glued to the TV screen, hanging on every moment of the gold medal in the waiting!

Watching Twitter when Facebook goes down

So I’m on Facebook at around 5:30 last Thursday (Dec 10) afternoon (5:21 to be exact – you’ll see why later), when all of a sudden the server goes down and nothing is responding.

Most of the time it’s just a computer problem, but I’m at school and the Internet usually runs smoothly (unlike at home, where using a certain phone kills the connection… of all the technology, they can’t avoid that problem…sigh)

Trying to figure out what’s up, I log on to Twitter and see if there’s an answer. Why not? That’s where everyone seems to find out everything right away, including Michael Jackson… I have an account and I don’t use it often, partially because I’m too drawn to Facebook and to me Twitter still has that loserish stigma of people posting stupid moments like “I just flushed the toilet!”

At about 5:23, I type in “facebook” into the search engine and see who’s included the word in their tweets. I’m surprised to see only two tweets, only one of them about what’s wrong with facebook.

20 seconds later a notification pops up on the screen telling me there have been “25 new tweets since I started searching.” I click the link and now it gets fun.

What’s wrong with facebook?

Ahhh! facebook isnt working = end of world

no facebook ugh

Why isn’t facebook working????

#Facebook is down for the count.

Another 20 seconds later comes another notification tells me of 100 new posts since I began the search. Which means more comedy.

facebook moving slow. time to get on omgpop.com

Twitter’s dead and Facebook is slow as Christmas. It’s the most wonderful time of the year 🙂

Facebook Is Totally Down

stupid evil facebook! its gone downhill in my opinion.

Another 20 seconds pass, another 100+ posts. And repeat the cycle… (inhale, read, laugh, exhale, new notification…)

I love how people migrate to Twitter now over everything. It’s kind of like that engagement post I did not too long ago, except to larger scale and about not so important things (i.e. facebook going down).

Too me it’s just comedy, but it is interesting to see the trends of people resorting to another social networking site when another one goes down.

Here’s my tweet @ 5:24:

it’s funny when i check twitter when facebook is down… now there’s a tidal wave of tweets coming in

I would’ve posted the screenshots at the time but work came first at the time…

Rappers sample Jewish boys choir track

I can’t decide whether to dub this awesome or an strange disaster. At first I thought it was the Miami Boys Choir but after a little background check, I discovered the sampled track was from the The New York School of Jewish Song Vol.2, an album that was released back in the seventies. Permission to sample and copyright issues aside, I wonder if the rappers have an idea what the lyrics are to that track… The words are from Eishes Chayil, a prayer said every Friday night in honour of a righteous Jewish women.
